Based on the eponymous story by Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky. In a small Hutsul village in the Ukrainian Carpathians, a young man named Ivan falls in love with Marychka — a girl whose father killed his own father. While preparing for their wedding, Ivan goes away to work, and during his absence, Marychka drowns in a mountain river while trying to save a lamb. Ivan's grief resonates with the rhythms of archaic Hutsul life, the splendor of vibrant weddings and funerals, the changing seasons, and the beauty of nature.
