Plot

The adventure saga based on the eponymous novel by Alexandre Dumas tells the story of a young man, Edmond Dantès, who becomes a victim of conspiracy and is arrested on the day of his wedding for a crime he did not commit. The sailor Dantès is sentenced to life imprisonment on the island of Château d'If. After 14 years of captivity, Edmond pulls off a daring escape and his life takes a turn as he returns to France with immense wealth under a new identity and seeks revenge.

At the heart of the film is the most famous novel by one of the most widely read French authors. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas was first published in 1846 and is rightly considered the originator of the concept of a "bestseller".
